Philippine Team Sibol wins gold in SEA Games esports

PHNOM PENH — Just as members of Team Philippines were about to call it a day Sunday, Sibol delivered glittering news from its end in the esports competition of the 32nd Southeast Asian Games (SEAG) here.

The country’s representatives in the game of Wild Rift dethroned defending champion Vietnam via a 3-1 verdict to score a SEAG breakthrough after missing the podium in the Hanoi edition.

Chammy “Chammy” Nazarrea, Justine “Juschie” Tan, Aaron “Aaron” Bingay, Golden Hart “DemonKite” Dajao and Reniel “Dr4w” Angara with coach Van “Vansu” Alfonso gave the Philippines its 14 gold of the conclave.

“We’re very happy with our first gold medal win for the Philippines. We’re hoping that this set the tone for our other upcoming games,” Sibol general manager Jab Escutin told The STAR.

“We have more esports titles we’re competing in and we’re hoping for really good results.”

Next up for Sibol are the Valorant and Crossfire tournaments. — Olmin Leyba
