Maynilad customers to receive P50 rebate

CUSTOMERS of Maynilad Water Services, Inc. in areas severely flooded during Tropical Storm Paeng will receive a rebate of P50 in their December bill, the company announced on Tuesday.

“We hope that this assistance, however small, will be of some help to our customers as they recover and rebuild their homes that were affected by floods at the height of Typhoon Paeng,” Maynilad President and Chief Executive Officer Ramoncito S. Fernandez said in a media release.

Maynilad also said that it gave P1.7 million assistance to cover for the average cost of the two cubic meter consumption of the affected customers in Muntinlupa and Pasay in Metro Manila, and Bacoor, Imus, Kawit and Noveleta in Cavite Province.

Maynilad said that the rebates will cover about 35,000 customers and will offset the water consumed for their clean-up activities after their homes were flooded.

Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System – Regulatory Office Chief Regulator Patrick Lester N. Ty said they welcome the initiative of Maynilad to assist families affected by the typhoon.

Metro Pacific Investments Corp., which has a majority stake in Maynilad, is one of three Philippine units of Hong Kong-based First Pacific Co. Ltd., the others being Philex Mining Corp. and PLDT, Inc.

Hastings Holdings, Inc., a unit of PLDT Beneficial Trust Fund subsidiary MediaQuest Holdings, Inc., has an interest in BusinessWorld through the Philippine Star Group, which it controls. — Ashley Erika O. Jose
