In a groundbreaking development, the Volkswagen ID Buzz has been converted into a fully functioning electric campervan for the first time, complete with a pop-up roof for added space.
TC Conversions, a specialist vehicle conversion company based in New Abbot, has successfully adapted the iconic vehicle to create the first fully developed camper on this platform. The company believes that this conversion will serve as a “gateway vehicle,” enticing more people to switch to electric campervanning.
Known for their professional and high-quality conversions, TC Conversions took on the Volkswagen ID Buzz as their latest project. The converted vehicle now offers over 210 miles of usable range and includes all the features one would expect in a modern campervan. These features comprise a four-berth sleeping area, an elevated pop-top roof, a rock ‘n’ roll bed, a fridge, running water, and off-grid electrics.
The converted campervan also boasts unique additions such as integrated blinds, an induction hob, and a sink that can be used both inside and outside the vehicle. All the appliances run on electricity from the vehicle or from an onboard power pack. Additionally, a solar panel has been installed on the elevated roof to help charge the power pack while off-grid, and the vehicle can also be connected to a mains hook-up for battery recharging.
Derek Thomas, the Managing Director of TC Conversions, expressed his excitement about the project, stating, “We believe that this ID Buzz campervan will be the gateway vehicle for people switching to electric campervanning, thanks to the heritage of the iconic VW camper vans of the past.” He highlighted that their conversion is one of the first to feature a full campervan layout and a pop-top roof specifically designed for the Buzz, making it a groundbreaking achievement.
The converted campervan is suitable for a range of customers, from small families to couples approaching retirement age. TC Conversions is currently accepting orders for the VW ID Buzz Campervan, with each vehicle taking approximately two months to complete as they are made to order. The campervans are priced at £82,000, and interested buyers can secure their vehicle with a £3,000 holding fee. Financing options are available.
