Sally-Anne Airey, the first woman to continue to serve in the Royal Navy after becoming a mother, is set to release her debut book, Mindful Command, this September. The book outlines the lessons Airey learned throughout her 23-year career in the Navy, during which she rose to the rank of Commander, and her subsequent career as a leadership coach.
Airey’s Mindful Command framework offers a simplified approach to developing real leadership skills, and is comprised of four foundations: Balanced Awareness, Clear Purpose, Fearless Compassion and Inner Stability. Through mastering these four elements, the book promises to help aspiring leaders cultivate the capacity to show up, whatever the circumstance, as their clear, calm and centred selves, confident of making the right decisions.
Explaining why she wrote the book, Airey said: “I decided to write Mindful Command because many of the leaders whose lives the framework has changed have urged me to. It’s the basis of Evolving Leadership, my 9-month leadership programme, and now that it’s been tried, tested, and refined many times over, I’m finally ready to share it with the world. I’ve made the book as practical and concise as I can, for busy people who want to be better leaders – or who simply want to improve their own personal presence and impact.”
Brian Garish, President of Mars Veterinary Health International, has praised Airey’s work, saying: “The best leaders do not leave their humanity at the office door and Sally-Anne understands this better than most people I know.”
Mindful Command, published by LID Publishing, will be available to purchase in paperback and e-book formats from 28 September.
