Calibre Audio and Bonnier Books Unveil Audiobook Aimed at Inspiring Children With Learning Disabilities and Differences

Calibre Audio, the national audiobook charity, and Bonnier Books UK have joined forces to create an innovative audio version of Patrick Kane and Samuel Rodriguez’s book, Human 2.0. The book celebrates medical engineering and human bionics, and is designed to bring the text and imagery to life for those with print disability.

Emma Scott, Director of Commissioning and Editorial at Calibre Audio, said: “We are thrilled to be working with Bonnier to produce an accessible format of this book. Its message of upliftment and inspiration is highly relevant to our members, who all face the challenges of print disability.”

Author Patrick Kane, who experienced disability from a young age, expressed his gratitude for the project. He said: “It is my hope that this audiobook and the physical book itself will inspire the next generation of children with disabilities to realise their exciting place in the world and teach children everywhere what it means to be human.”

Marina Stavropoulou, Senior Editor for Audio at Bonnier Books, elaborated on the challenge of creating an audio version of the book: “We aimed to create something bold and beautiful using auditory stimuli to spark the imagination and supplement the beautiful illustrations. We chose a documentary narrative and sound design style which makes the audiobook a truly immersive experience.”

The audiobook of Human 2.0 is now available for Calibre Audio members as part of its collection of 15,000 audiobook titles. To find out more about the charity and its support for print disabilities, visit calibreaudio.org.uk.
