THE ILOILO provincial government has ordered a temporary ban on the entry of poultry and related products after a confirmed case of bird flu in neighboring province Capiz.

“There shall be a temporary ban on the entry to the Province of all live domestic and wild birds and their products from the Province of Capiz from 03 December 2022” to the 13th of the month, states the order signed by Iloilo Provincial Administrator Dennis T. Ventilacion as officer-in-charge governor.

Bird flu, or the Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) subtype H5N1, was confirmed in Roxas City, capital of Capiz in a Dec. 2 laboratory result of the Bureau of Animal Industry-Veterinary Laboratory Division.

It is the first confirmed bird flu case in the Western Visayas region in central Philippines.

The province had previously imposed similar restrictions against other areas with bird flu cases such as those in the northern and southern parts of the country.

In March, the Department of Agriculture prohibited the movement of domestic and captured birds and poultry products after the H5N1 strain of the disease was detected in Bulacan and Pampanga.

THE Department of Agriculture (DA) suspended the transport of domestic and captured wild birds and poultry products as a precaution against avian influenza or bird flu.

A separate order also temporarily banned poultry imports from Italy and Canada following bird flu outbreaks there.
