THE BUREAU of Immigration (BI) has terminated a job order employee who was arrested on Nov. 22 in Muntinlupa for attempting to rob a Chinese national.
“Upon checking our records, we confirmed that he is not an immigration officer, but rather a job order employee,” Immigration Commissioner Norman G. Tansingco said in a statement on Thursday.
He added that the worker was not authorized to conduct arrests and was only designated to do simple office tasks.
Job order employees in the bureau are limited to six-month contracts that involve office services for the agency.
Mr. Tansingco said the bureau is working closely with the Philippine National Police for the filing of charges against the former employee.
Local police also arrested nine other individuals who allegedly posed as agents from the National Bureau of Investigation while attempting to detain and rob the Chinese national who lived in Muntinlupa.
“We will not tolerate any such illegal activities, hence we immediately terminated his services, and he will continue to face the criminal charges that might be filed against him,” the Immigration chief said. — John Victor D. Ordoñez
