NCM Auctions, an auction and asset management company based in South Yorkshire, is pioneering a sustainable way to repurpose items from the old Debenhams and Next stores in Midsummer Place, Milton Keynes, paving the path for new retail and leisure ventures.
The erstwhile three-storey location, once home to Debenhams and Next Beauty & Home, has been vacant since Next’s departure in May. NCM Auctions is working with Sloane Curtis, retail refurbishment experts, to efficiently clear these stores, facilitating the ongoing transformation of the Midsummer Place shopping centre.
Currently, NCM Auctions is hosting an online auction without reserve, featuring a diverse array of items from these stores. This includes retail fixtures, branded merchandising units, concession stands, catering equipment, and much more.
This approach by NCM Auctions is not only environmentally friendly by avoiding landfill waste but also creates significant social and economic benefits.
Alex McCormick from NCM Auctions explains the impact: “We have a huge buyer base of smaller businesses, independent retailers and charities who regularly buy from our auctions. Giving them access to high-quality retail displays, fixtures and catering equipment at a fraction of the cost of sourcing new items.
It’s great to see these smaller retailers using our auctions to help grow and scale their businesses. At the same time, we’re helping clear space for new retailers and improve the shopping and retail experience for visitors to Midsummer Place.”
The auction for items from the former Debenhams and Next Home stores is live, with bidding set to end on 29 November from 1pm. Those interested can browse the catalogue and register to bid.
