For some time now we have been in a foggy mess, nobody can seem to find that one ray of sunshine to burn through the muck. It is my view that the time to buy is now-I’ve been buying since the start of Q1 and have so far fared relatively well- out-performing the markets so far this year. I believe the very worst is behind us, better days are indeed in store for the economy and the stock market, that is of course not to say there will not be any aftershocks (we had one today with GE, and more will undoubtedly follow).
I cannot overestimate the old adage “buy when there is blood on the streets”. The US economy has hit the breaks, the housing sector continues to hemorrhage and corporate profits are slowing all the while input prices from gasoline to dough are rising. As a country we have seen this before, things will get better and those that buy now and have the fortitude and guts to stick it out will be nicely rewarded.
Smart investors do buy when everyone else thinks things are horrible, they have done it for over a century and will continue to do it. From the blood-stained streets in Europe during WW2 to the oasis of ‘For Sale’ signs dotted across America today, opportunity awaits.
